The north and west coasts of Portugal have long been popular surfing destinations, whilst the south Algarve area with its bays and coves is a popular package holiday summer destination. Together these offer miles of coastline with some great kitesurfing beaches. Ideal if you're looking at practising your waveriding skills.

The Algarve offers excellent conditions from May till September, the predominant wind being from the northwest. Usually during morning, the wind strength is between 10 & 20 knots, increasing from 14:00 onwards to between 25 and 35 knots. There are certain days when winds are constant from southwest at 10 to 30 knots. During winter, the wind usually blows from the southwest with wit winds between 15 to 35 knots. Occasionally, there are southeastly winds blowing from North Africa with speeds between 10 and 40 knots.
